“Thor Really Is a Sick Athlete”: 3 Reps of 407 lbs Icelandic Strongman, Leave Bodybuilding World in Frenzy

Coming out of his retirement, the 2018 World’s Strongest Man champ Hafthor Bjornsson is all set to crack his next goal. Significantly, even though the Icelandic beast took a break from competitive events and was focussing on his new love, boxing, he is back again! Björnsson is now aiming to break the existing all-time powerlifting record.

The latest post from The Mountain showed him acing a heavyweight bench press. Apparently, he took a 407 lbs loaded barbell and did 3 reps. However, fans couldn’t resist after seeing the beast back to his niche, lauding him in the comment section.

After making his strongman debut in 2009, The Mountain has won several titles including World’s Strongest Man, Europe’s Strongest Man, and Arnold Strongman Classic. Although 2020 Arnold was his last competition, he is back yet again after the hiatus. The 6’8″ tall, and 335 lbs beast is now eyeing another enviable record in a contest the next Saturday.

Björnsson’s goal is to break the all-time powerlifting total world record, in this week’s contest. Given that, today, he treated his fans with a post flexing his workout routine in a video with the caption, “185kg/407lbs 3×3 today…I’m competing this Saturday and I have high goals. My best ever total is 1100kg and I aim to break that. How much will I total April 15th in my preparation to break the all time powerlifting WR raw with wraps.”

Anticipating a great future ahead, fans wished luck to The Mountain and shared their high expectations in the comment section. “Good luck champ !! My guess is you will do 1280kg or more”, predicted one fan. Another anticipated his upcoming feats, saying, “1100+ total incoming, can’t wait what you bring in the end of the year! Going to be interesting for sure”. One excited fan had some great insight, saying,“Can already see the MASS !!! Thor is Back !!! Always come back to the deadlift!!!!”

Mentioning his adeptness one fan penned, “Man its just crazy how huge he gotten in so short time again. Thor really is a sick athlete. Anyone ever challenged by him in any sport needs to be afraid and train their hardest.” Pinning on the expectations another wrote, “445-245-410 for 1100 would be Phenomenal! But my Heart says Hafthor will surpass even that! I believe in him 100% So I’m gonna say 1100+.”
