Not known by many, but height plays a huge role in gymnastics. The shorter gymnasts are the more center of gravity they obtain. However, this doesn’t mean that tall gymnasts can’t perform well. Simone Biles and Suni Lee are two of the best gymnasts in the world right now. Notably, while Biles dominated the 2016 Rio Olympics, Lee took home three Olympic medals, including a gold, at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

With their short stature, it is easier for them to gain balance. However, given that height plays a significant advantage in helping athletes to perform their skills, who do you think is the taller gymnast, Suni or Biles?

As mentioned before, a low center of gravity helps gymnasts significantly. The lower the center of gravity is, the better the balance will be. Likewise, it helps in better rotations while landings or performing flips.

Smaller gymnasts have higher strength-to-mass ratios, which help them perform both backward and forward rotations. Another key feature of that is strength. Biles and Lee are incredibly strong gymnasts, who often leave fans mesmerized as they leap off the ground and into the air.
