Even though he started his career as a restaurant busboy, a construction site worker, and a stuntman, Jackie Chan faced rapid career growth after becoming an actor. He is now a Holywood superstar who has a net worth of $400 million. But how does he feel when he looks back to the days when he had just become a popular name?

In his autobiography, Chan disclosed how he used to have bizarre and expensive hobbies. One such hobby comprised collecting and refurbishing houses in China to preserve his country’s antiques. Jackie Chan has no regrets

Jackie Chan once bought 4 houses in China and donated them to Singapore after refurbishing. While the process cost him a fortune, he also was questioned on the decision to pursue this dream. They blamed Chan for ruining their cultures. In fact, his friends were indignant on his behalf and said, “Jackie, you?ve spent so much of your own money on these things, tens of millions from acquiring them to restoring them, not seeing any return on the investment, and you?re still being criticized! Doesn?t that upset you?”

But as he put it in his book Never Grow Up, Chan got used to that criticism. The martial artist knew he had everything that one expects from life. And from his heart Chan realized that he was not ruining anything, in fact, he was preserving the culture of China. “At this point in my life, what desires do I have left? Fame? I?m already very famous. Money? I haven?t been poor for a long time. I can pack a rucksack and fly off in my own jet whenever I like.” But all he wanted to do was invest himself in the betterment of China.

Chan wanted to stay busy and do what made him happy. Because as far as the ethics are concerned, the actor was true to his conscience and only thinking about how to repay his country.

Chan’s contribution to China

Apart from making the country proud with his magnificent success, the Rush Hour actor shared concerns about the advancement of China. Those who follow him regularly should’ve seen Chan attending public conferences with two stuffed pandas in his hand. Those pandas were not only carrying a national significance for Chan, but he also spread concerns as they became an endangered species in China.

In fact, he also dedicated himself to helping the countrymen in any natural disasters. This was the humanitarian side of Chan as he always came up straight away with the most necessary items to help those victims who faced calamity.
