‘Try to Be the Best Leader’- Aaron Judge is Ready to Be the Next Derek Jeter-Like Captain for New York Yankees

New York Yankees are arguably the most successful team in the history of Major League Baseball. But in the past 10-12 years, they have struggled to establish their identity as MLB giants. Notably, they are yet to find a captain for their team since Derek Jeter retired in 2014. As of now, Aaron Judge is probably the biggest Yankees star in the team. And if reports are true, then the right fielder might become the next captain to lead the side.

But in order to do that, the Yankees have to first extend Judge’s contract. Since Judge has only a year left in his contract, he will become a free agent after the 2022 season if the Yankees do not renew him.

Aaron Judge to replace Derek Jeter as Yankees’ captain?

Recently, when Judge appeared in CC Sabathia’s podcast, he admitted that he would love to become the next captain. And it will be an honor for him. When Ryan Ruocco (another host) asked Aaron how much would it mean to him if he became the captain of the Yankees, here’s how he described the feeling of leading the Bronx.

“It would be an incredible honor. But I think you know, nothing, honestly, whatever change, you know, I’m still trying to hold myself the same way. Try to hold myself to the highest standard, be accountable, and be there for my teammates, you know,” Aaron Judge said.

“So I don’t think that there is a captain name or no captain name. You know, I’m gonna go out there and just be Aaron judge and try to be the best leader and teammate I can be every day.”
