The New York Mets may well be the team of the 2022 season. With considerable investment into the squad already before the lockout, the Mets could still be looking to add a few pieces. And with their pitching rotation featuring 2 former multiple-time Cy Young award winners, the Mets have an interesting season ahead of them, to say the least. And Jacob DeGrom is showing shades of the reason why, even in practice; striking out Mets hitters for fun, the pitcher even took care of Francisco Lindor.
The New York Mets secured the services of star pitcher Max Scherzer just prior to the lockout and as a result, now house one of the most dangerous 1-2 combinations from the mound in the league. With Jacob DeGrom coming into his own as the main pitcher, Scherzer’s presence in the dugout can only stand to help his development. However, in a recent practice, DeGrom showed his true prowess as he struck out several hitters from the Mets in practice.

The video captures a batting practice in which the Mets’ star hitter and shortstop is a versatile hitter who can hit both right and left-handed. However, when he took home plat against DeGrom in practice it didn’t seem to matter.
Down two strikes, DeGrom outfoxed Lindor as he swung and missed on the third to finally have himself on the way back to the dugout. However, it’s possible that the lefty stance favored the pitcher as he threw from the mound.

DeGrom spent much of last season on the injured list after a freak injury sustained while batting practice mid-season. Certainly, a welcome change for the Mets will be the introduction of the Universal DH which will allow pitchers like DeGrom to save themselves for the reason their team had them signed on. Pitching.
The practice though could well set bells ringing for newly appointed Mets manager Buck Showalter with the Mets’ batting needing some practice before getting into the season. Their offensive contribution will be under some scrutiny if they are to put in a performance this season and Lindor will feature heavily on those plans.
