Scott Boras, a lawyer by trade, has been referred to many as the most powerful agent in sports. While responsible for some of the most skilled players in the market, Boras has also ensured top dollar payments. Working with Cole and Seager most recently, he has secured contracts worth $300 million for them both.

Boras has been directly involved with some of the most lucrative contracts in the league in recent years. Boras Corp., the agency fronting Scott’s business as an agent, has been responsible for several big leaguer’s receiving their contracts in the range that they do. Bryce Harper’s $330 million deal may seem like a distant memory, but that is simply down to the growth of Boras’ clientele.

Boras had 13 active contracts in the MLB that were valued at $100 million or more at the end of 2020; Significantly higher than any other agent in the market.

To be fair to other agents operating though, Boras does manage to secure elite assignments to negotiate for. Cole, Semien, and Seager are centerpieces of their respective franchises and will likely function as the keystone for their teams moving forward.

Correa’s next contract figures could well top the $300 million mark with Boras at the helm, managing his negotiations. It doesn’t hurt that the market for shortstops has grown thinner after Seager signed on with the Rangers.

The only bump in the road now seems to be the lockout. But, needless to say, Boras will be a busy man once the teams can start negotiating again.
