Director Quentin Tarantino?s 2019 film Once Upon A Time in Hollywood was a critically-acclaimed hit. The film spanned over varied controversial matters and amongst these was its depiction of Bruce Lee . The Brad Pitt starrer drama received attention from many celebrities and fans for wrongly portraying legend Bruce Lee?s image in a fight sequence with Pitt. Recently, John Wick actor Donnie Yen called out Tarantino for his audacity.?

During the Oscars eve on 13 March, Donnie Yen discussed the whereabouts of several Hollywood films with Variety. In that conversation, he also mentioned director Quentin Tarantino?s controversial way of portraying legend, Bruce Lee.?

Donnie Yen termed Tarantino’s portrayal of Lee cartoonish
During his interview with Variety, Yen expressed that he finds it hard to watch his cultural heritage bastardized in American films. He was pointing clearly at Tarantino?s version of Bruce Lee in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. Yen explained that everyone is entitled to their opinions. He further said, ?Quentin Tarantino is a very renowned filmmaker, and he?s entitled to his status. And I?m entitled to state my own view. Obviously, he was making fun of Bruce. It was cartoonish.?

For the unversed, in the film Brad Pitt?s character, stuntman Cliff Booth was seen getting into a fight with Bruce Lee, played by Mike Moh over a disagreement on the set of??The Green Hornet.? They fight in three rounds in which both of them win in the first and second shots respectively. However, in the third round Cliff defeats Bruce by striking a cheap shot.

The scene was disrespectful in many ways especially in showing the master?s defeat to a stuntman. It paved way for endless debates and allegations against director Tarantino.?

Alfonso revealed his hesitation on set while shooting the controversial scene
During an interview with Huffington Post, Robert Alfonso revealed that the entire crew and Brad Pitt on the set were uncomfortable in shooting the fighting sequence. Alfonso did not want to choreograph the sequence because he idolized Lee, not just for his talent but also for his life lessons.?
