“I Sent a Few of His Teeth Flying!”: Bruce Lee Was Cursed by His Father Despite Winning a Gruesome Fight Once

We all know Bruce Lee as a legendary martial artist and a great actor. People from inside and outside of the sports arena religiously follow Lee’s work and legacy. But, after the former martial artist and author Matthew Polly logged Lee’s childhood dreams, personal confessions, and vulnerabilities, the Little Dragon’s life became more transparent to his fans.

For his fighting prowess and martial arts verve, Bruce Lee was praised by many. However, the little phoenix once got admonished by his father for pursuing his passion for fighting. In his book, Bruce Lee: A Life, Matthew Polly discreetly penned an incident from Lee’s childhood, when he got scolded by his father. Let’s take a look at this anecdote from Lee’s childhood.

In his book, Polly logged every nook and cranny of the Little Dragon’s life. In a childhood anecdote, Bruce Lee once got reprimanded by his father, Lee Hoi-Chuen for indulging in a fight. As per the records, when Lee was a teen, he engaged in a fight with an assistant instructor of a Kung Fu school. However, Lee won the fight and came home with a black eye and a busted lip.

On reaching home, Lee’s younger brother asked him about his wounds. To this Lee replied, “These are just surface-level wounds on me! You should have seen the other guy”. Adding more details to his fight, the Little Phoenix added, “I sent a few of his teeth flying!”.

Moreover, young Lee wasn’t able to hide his black eye and wounded lip for long. This led to Lee’s dad scolding him for “embarrassing the family and wasting his life with fighting”. However, Lee refused to quit pursuing martial arts. He even explained to his father his disinterest in studying and his love for fighting. Lee said to his dad, “I will fight to make a name”.
