Being one of the greatest ice hockey players of all time has earned Wayne Gretzky the nickname “the Great One.” In NHL history, Wayne Gretzky also held the record for the most road goals. Unfortunately for him, this record was surpassed on Tuesday.

Alex Ovechkin, the captain of the Washington Capitals, scored his 403rd goal on the road, beating the previous record. Fans reacted enthusiastically to the victory as the NHL tweeted about this historic occasion.

Alex Ovechkin now holds 793 career strikes in total and 402 goals on the road. The NHL official page made a post on Twitter to celebrate the occasion. It posted, “lex Ovechkin’s (@ovi8) second of the game is his 403rd goal on the road — officially passing @WayneGretzky for first all-time for most road goals!”.

Someone said, “Its hard to compare the two outside of just the numbers.Wayne played in the 80s “the golden era for goals scored”while Alex is doing this in a much tougher defensive league. Im biased because Im a Caps fan & think Ovi is the best pure goal scorer but I wont say #99 isnt the goat.
