NCAA Gymnastics returned yesterday following an offseason filled with intrigue over transfers, coaching changes, and lack of proper meet broadcasting. Despite the drama, the 2024 NCAA women’s gymnastics season is here! With its return, the LSU standout Olivia Livvy Dunne, who competed on the bars last season also set sight on improving her team’s performance. The Tigers women’s gymnastics team finished fourth overall while Livvy cheered from the stands.

On January 5th, preseason’s No. 14 Ohio State and No. 3 LSU kicked off the 2024 NCAA women’s gymnastics season. Throughout January and February, there are many exciting competitions, with top-ranked teams competing for dominance reported ESPN. A few noteworthy events include LSU taking on strong opponents like No. 2 Florida on February 23 and No. 9 Kentucky on January 19.

Among the highlights are the January 13th faceoffs, featuring No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 3 LSU, No. 4 Utah, and No. 5 UCLA. Looking back at 2023, LSU became a major contingent in the NCAA gymnastics landscape. With an incredible score of 197.475, the team won the semifinal and advanced to the Dickies Arena championship semi-final.

In addition, Haleigh Bryant, LSU’s champion, scored 39.6875 all-around, which was the second-highest at the NCAA Championships and the greatest in a semifinal in the history of the university. Meanwhile, the seven-figure earner Livvy couldn’t compete in her junior year due to health constraints including two torn labrums, a torn bicep, and her leg injury. However, on her comeback, she achieved an outstanding score of 9.825 on the uneven bars.

As the 2024 season advances, all eyes are on LSU—who came third in the preseason. The Tigers have regularly been strong competitors in the championships, making it to the championship game in 2023. In the lead this season, Tiger’s team has—Haleigh Bryant—the 2023 NCAA all-around bronze champion, and Aleah Finnegan, the 2023 floor co-silver medalist. In addition, 2022 U.S. national champion Konnor McClain further enhances LSU’s potential.

In addition, Dunne made an early promise saying, “It’s never been done at LSU before. It’s an unprecedented territory for LSU gymnastics.
