In the latest episode of “Sprint Talk,” Lyles and Fahnbulleh spoke at length about the latter’s career, injuries, his favorite athletes, and other interesting topics. However, one moment stood out when Lyles and Fahnbulleh discussed the difference between fans in Europe and America. Fahnbulleh candidly shared his feelings and discussed how, in Europe, fans knew and celebrated all the track and field athletes regardless of their different disciplines. However, the case in America was quite different in terms of the atmosphere and excitement. He said the only time the atmosphere was similar to Europe in terms of crowd enthusiasm was at the Prefontaine Diamond League. To which Lyles replied, “No, I’ll tell you what, yeah, so the New York Grand Prix has actually been having a better environment”.

Lyles said, “I’ve actually walked out, and they get excited, and you know, we’ve had Sha’Carri come through, and she walked out, and these people started losing their minds. And you know we’ve had Sydney come through, losing their minds, and the kids have by far the best atmosphere for the youth,” he laughed and continued, “I did a walk out there, bro. I thought I was a freaking rapper”. This nostalgic throwback took fans back to the epic moments of the New York Grand Prix.
How Lyles shone at the New York Grand Prix
On June 24, 2023, it was a golden day for Lyles at the New York Grand Prix. Lyles won the 200m, hitting 19.83 seconds, and tied with the legendary Usain Bolt’s record for most 200-meter wins under 20 seconds, which he later broke at the London Diamond League. Before he could make his way to the track, Lyles entered the scene in style for his walkout in a neon green sweater.
The crowd and a swarm of fans awaited and welcomed him with loud cheers and posters. The crowd gathered around him, asking for his autograph and pictures, and Lyles was smiling ear to ear with all the well-deserved love.
