Surfing is a wild sport, and the surfers who dare to attempt it are even wilder. While on the outside it may seem like the most fun outdoor activity, it has its dangers. The unpredictability of waves in terms of their size and speed has often had repercussions on surfers. Parenting, and especially to teenage kids, is sort of like the same thing, believes actress, dancer, and singer Jennifer Lopez. She draws parallels between raising a teenage child and stumbling to find a level with them to tumbling on a large and ferocious wave before getting back on the surfboard.

In a recent appearance at a chat show, Jennifer Lopez talks about raising a family with her actor-director husband Ben Affleck. One of the challenges, she said, was raising their teenage children. Both Affleck and Lopez have children from their previous marriages who are almost all in their teenage years.

However, the interesting part of the conversation came when Lopez drew an analogy between raising teenage kids and surfing. She said, “No listen, it’s the time when they are individuating and they are challenging everything you say and everything you do and everything you are… you have to kind of just like ride the wave. I feel like it’s like surfing”.

Before continuing further, Lopez enacted out what surfing and tumbling to a large wave must feel like. She continued, “I’m just riding the wave… just got knocked over… I’m back, I’m back”. All the while acting it out with her arms in motion, creating a hilarious situation on live air.
