The state of Minnesota has witnessed a high number of drowning incidents in the past few years. In 2021, 25 drowning accidents occurred in the waters of Minnesota while boating, and in 2020, 20 people died due to the same fatal boating accidents. This year also, Wisconsin counties have witnessed a fair share of drowning incidents due to swimming.

Last month, two people drowned on the same day in Waushara County, Wisconsin. Recently, another tragedy in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin left the swimming community in aghast. A 39-year-old local man drowned during a charity event at a campground in Byron. The 39-year-old got stuck under a swimming pond at the event.

39-year-old man drowns while swimming in? Wisconsin waters

On August 10, tragedy struck the town of Byron in Fond du Lac County. A 39-year-old man drowned after being trapped under a floating dock in a swimming pond while visiting Breezy Hill Campground in Byron. According to the CBS 58 news the man who was identified as Paul Becker, a resident of Fond du Lac, had visited the town with a charitable organization. Becker who worked to support people with intellectual disabilities was trapped under the dock in the campground.

As per a Facebook post by the Fond du Lac sheriff’s office, “On Thursday, August 10th, 2023, at 5:49 p.m., the Fond du Lac County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting an individual was trapped underneath an inflatable floating dock.” And Before the county?s dive teams reached the scene, two members of the team were already present at the event and dived in to search for Becker

Lastly, at 6:26 p.m., the Fond Du Lac County sheriff’s dive team recovered the 39-year-old from the water. Byron, who was found in 10 feet of water, was taken to a local hospital, St. Agnes Hospital. But sadly, despite the best efforts of the authorities, Byron could not survive and was pronounced dead at 7:24 p.m.

This unfortunate event was considered to be purely accidental with no foul play involved, nonetheless, the authorities are still investigating the case. This is not the first drowning case taking place in the counties of Wisconsin. Last month, two drowning incidents occurred on the same day in Waushara County, Wisconsin.

Drowning incident in Wisconsin county

On July 29, two drowning accidents occurred in the Waushara waters. At 5:30 on Saturday, a 44-year-old man named Randall J. Schnieder drowned after diving in the waters of Long Lake. The Sheboygan resident, after failed life-saving efforts, was pronounced dead. Later, at 7:08 on the same unfortunate day, another drowning accident took place. A man whose identity has not been identified yet drowned in the waters of Silver Lake, located in Marion.

According to statistics provided by the CDC in 2022, on average, 65 people drown in Wisconsin each year. This alarming number highlights the necessity of taking safety measures while going into the water. Hopefully, after the unfortunate loss of Byron, the authorities will take more safety measures to avoid any such accidents in the future.
