Athletes inspire athletes. When one goes on the field, they often carry teachings from their idols, fellows, or athletes from a different sport. That is what makes them better at every step. While they could also belong to separate sports, the foundation remains the same. Athletes like Conor McGregor made their way to the top by learning from other athletes.

The MMA star recently took to Instagram to show off his well-chiseled body-one that resembles that of a bodybuilder. Although he has taken a break from fighting, the star has still kept up his build. In the caption of the picture, he explains his inspiration.

Conor McGregor calls himself the child of two popular athletes

The photo showed the MMA legend cycling while posing for a picture. He showed off his biceps as he posed and smiled. However, McGregor had bulked up quite a bit. For someone who took a break from sports, the star worked hard on his physique. It resembled a bodybuilder’s body with the spirit of a fighter.

 

In the caption, he called himself the “mad Irish baby” of legendary bodybuilder and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Martial arts champion Bruce Lee. Although he is an MMA star by profession, the similarities between the legends go beyond physical resemblance. While McGregor has the build of Arnold and the fighting spirit of Bruce Lee, there’s more to it than meets the eye.

Both Bruce Lee and Arnold started off as sports persons. Lee began his career as a combat artist and is remembered as the one who introduced martial arts to Hollywood movies. Schwarzenegger, on the other hand, is a 7x Mr. Olympia winner, famous for his role in and as ‘The Terminator’.

Conor McGregor recently announced his break from fighting to focus on his acting career. He landed his first-ever acting gig alongside Hollywood star Jake Gyllenhaal, in the movie Road House.

The Arnold-Conor connection

The MMA legend has met Arnold on multiple occasions, and they always share a mutual respect for each other. Incidentally, Conor’s father also met Arnold once and was full of praise for the bodybuilding legend. The bodybuilder has closely followed boxing and other mixed martial arts matches. In fact, Arnold keenly followed heavyweight fighting matches when Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson dominated the headlines. Therefore, it’s only natural for Conor to draw some inspiration from legends.
