Team Sentinels made history on the night of May 30, 2021, as it beat Fnatic in Reykjavik. The North American giants were facing European greats in the finals of the first-ever Valorant majors. While fans would have preferred to watch all the adrenaline rush in person, unfortunately, it had to remain a virtual affair for the audience.

As TenZ, ShahZam, SicK, zombs, and dapr picked apart FNC one by one, over a million people tuned in to watch the annihilation live. From 200K peak viewers on the official Valorant channel to 300K on Shroud’s channel and many more across other channels, fans worldwide joined in to see which team takes the trophy home.

Sentinels emerges as the best Valorant team in the world

Sentinels’ run in the Valorant Champions Tour has been nothing short of perfect. The team started with a bang as it won the first regional majors. Its stellar performance continued going into the second challengers.

While Sentinels went straight to the Grand Finals through the upper brackets, FNC had to struggle a bit. However, handing a 2-1 loss to NUTURN Gaming did the trick in the lower bracket finals.

FNC has already lost to SEN once in the upper bracket. The stage was set for the European team to prove it is better than SEN and quite possibly the best team in the world after exacting its revenge. However, things did not entirely go as planned. While Fnatic managed to push two out of three games into overtime, they both ended in a lost cause.

Even the third map looked like it might go into overtime, but Sentinels probably had an early flight to catch. The duo of TenZ and ShahZam clutched crucial moments as they beat FNC 14-11 on Haven. The victory ensured Sentinels the trophy of the first-ever Valorant global majors and a prize of $200,000 as it emerged as the best team in the world.

Sentinels has undoubtedly proven itself to be the best team, not only in North America, but also in the world. However, their stellar run in the Valorant Champions Tour so far wouldn’t have been possible without the on-loan player from Cloud9.

Sentinels was dominating the tournament even before the Sinatraa fiasco happened, and TenZ had to replace him. However, as soon as the beast joined the squad under ShahZam’s leadership, SEN started playing on a completely different level. From breaking holds to swift rushes, Sentinels dominated its opponents with every strategy in the bag.

At the center of it all was the MVP of the match, Tyson “TenZ” Ngo. Clearly, the win was a team effort with all five players doing their bit. The Valorant community might not want to overshadow this effort by giving a lot of credit to the MVP. However, deep down, they all know he deserves it.
