WALL OF HONOR: Serbia Pays Another Priceless Tribute to Novak Djokovic

World No.1 Novak Djokovic is unarguably the greatest athlete to emerge out of Serbia. Over the last decade, Djokovic has established himself as one of the greatest tennis players of all time and has successfully challenged the Nadal-Federer duopoly.
To honor the 18-time Grand Slam champion, some of his fans in Belgrade, the capital city of Serbia, have dedicated a wall in tribute to Djokovic.

In a heartfelt gesture, fans made an incredibly designed graffiti of Djokovic on the sidewall of a tennis court as a symbol of appreciation for their national hero.

The graffiti shows Djokovic with a wide smile on his face with the tennis star’s left hand in a celebratory fist pump. In fact, Djokovic was himself present to receive the honor and signed next to the graffiti with white spray paint.

The 33-year-old clicked pictures in front of the street art and seemed overwhelmed by the profound gesture. The Serbian interacted with the fans on the court and clicked pictures with them too.

Just a few days back, Djokovic withdrew from the 2021 Madrid Open as he decided against traveling to the ATP Masters 1000 event. Djokovic had won the last edition of the Madrid Open in 2019 and would have entered the tournament as the defending champion.
Instead, he went on a hike to Rtanj mountain in his hometown along with his wife, Jelena. Djokovic even posted a picture of his brief trip on Instagram and mentioned the sense of fulfillment he’d experienced after reaching the mountain cliff.

After winning a record 9th title at the Australian Open this year, Djokovic withdrew from a slew of tournaments in March including the Miami Open. Djokovic last played at the Serbia Open last week where he lost to Aslan Karatsev in the semifinals.
Up next, Djokovic is expected to compete at the 2021 Rome Masters, which is the last tournament before heading to Roland Garros next month.
