“Was Frustrated With My Game”: Novak Djokovic on His First Round Victory at US Open 2020

Novak Djokovic cruised to the second round at the US Open 2020. The World No. 1 pulverized Damir Dzumhur in straight sets and won the battle in less than two hours. The Serbian raced to win the first set but had to work his way through the second.
During the post-match interview, Djokovic said, “I came out, played really well the first set. Second set I lost my focus, kind of got stressed out a couple times, screamed. I was frustrated with my game, with some of the shots that I was playing at that time. Just I guess channeled it out in that way.”
The Western and Southern Open 2020 champion spoke about the intensity he brings on the court. Despite the crowd-less tournament, Djokovic screamed a couple of times in the second set to refocus.

“That’s obviously still there, regardless of the empty stadium. But this is what I bring to the court. I bring a lot of intensity, energy. Sometimes my reactions may not be so positive, but I try to bounce back,” added Djokovic after his opening-round victory at Flushing Meadows.
Djokovic improved his winning streak to 24-0 this year and seems to have overcome his nagging neck issues. The 17-time Grand Slam Champion is eyeing a record fourth title at the US Open.

Novak Djokovic irked by serve-clock rule
Novak was visibly disturbed by the serve clock rule that appeared quicker than that at the Cincinnati Masters at the same venue. Djokovic asserted that he wasn’t aware of the rule and the lack of communication worries him, yet again.
Djokovic, seeded No.1, will face Britain’s Kyle Edmund in the second round. The duo has faced each other on 6 different occasions, with Djokovic boasting of a 5-1 lead.
