“Will Be Out for a Few Weeks”: Stan Wawrinka Announces Unfortunate News

Injuries and surgeries are not letting the three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka settle. The Swiss player recently withdrew from the Miami Open 2021 and is now set to sit on the sidelines for a few more weeks after another surgery. This also means that he will not play the initial clay-court tournaments in April.
Stan Wawrinka gave an update about his injury on his Instagram page. He revealed that he had been suffering from a left foot injury and so had a small surgery on it. This means that he will be out for weeks.
“Hey guys, just wanted to update you. After having some problems in my left foot for a while, I have decided to do a small procedure on it. Everything went well. I will be out for a few weeks but can’t wait to start practicing again soon.”

Stan Wawrinka in 2021
Stan Wawrinka has had a tough start to 2021. At Australian Open 2021, the former World No.3 failed to convert a handful of match points and thus was ousted by unseeded Marton Fucsovics in the second round.
“It wasn’t the best level for me but again I was fighting, I had some chance to finish the match but I didn’t finish. I hesitated a little when I had the match point and I lost it,” Wawrinka had said after his Aussie Open loss.

Wawrinka is currently on a three-match losing streak. After the Australian Open exit, he lost in the first round of the ATP Rotterdam Open and followed it up with a first-round exit at ATP Qatar Open. Subsequently, he first withdrew from Dubai Tennis Championships and later from Miami Open 2021 as well.

Injury niggles have haunted Wawrinka for a couple of years now. The 2017 French Open run took everything out of Wawrinka. He suffered multiple injuries after the 2017 French Open final and hasn’t reached a Grand Slam semifinal since then. He is 35 years old now, and a comeback to the top could just be out of his reach now.
