How many times have we seen the headline, “Caitlin Clark shines while Angel Reese struggles”? It’s been the media’s go-to since last season. With Clark winning Rookie of the Year, many were quick to crown her as the better player between the two. But tonight? The script changed. This time, it was the Bayou Barbie’s turn to remind the world she’s not just here for the “mebounds”, she’s here to dominate as well.
The Sky got their 4th win of the season after making a 14-point comeback to win against the Los Angeles Sparks. And the win wouldn’t have happened without Reese. Fresh off a monster game against the Dream, where she matched her career-high with 19 rebounds, the Chi-Town Barbie delivered what might just be the best performance of her young career. Reese went on to score 18 points, 17 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals. Simply incredible.
But as Reese shines, Clark continues to struggle. For the third straight game, the Indiana superstar couldn’t find her rhythm. In the Fever’s win over the Seattle Storm, Clark managed just 6 points on 3-of-13 shooting. What’s more concerning? She went 0-for-6 from beyond the arc. That now makes her 1-for-23 from deep in her last three. Not something we are used to seeing. A lot has been said about Reese’s shooting efficiency, but right now, it’s Clark who’s caught in a rough patch. Something clearly isn’t clicking, but if there’s one thing we know about Clark, it’s that she’ll find a way to bounce back. All great players do!

Meanwhile, as Clark tries to break out of her slump, Reese is out here making history. The Bayou Barbie just joined an elite company. She became the fourth player in WNBA history to post at least 15 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals in a game. The other three? MVPs Candace Parker, Tamika Catchings, and Tina Charles. That’s some company to be a part of! This game also marked another double-double for her and, in doing so, she leapfrogged Candace Parker for the second-most double-doubles in a player’s first two WNBA seasons. Now she’s trailing only Tina Charles.

What’s your perspective on:
Is Angel Reese the new face of WNBA, or will Caitlin Clark reclaim her spotlight soon?
Have an interesting take?
And you know what lit the fire in her this time? Pretty much the same thing that sparked her whole “mebounds” legacy. Hate turned into motivation. When asked about the Sky’s recent momentum shift, she didn’t hold back her feelings about the online noise: “Yeah, we’re tired of getting cussed out,” Reese said. “Not literally, but I think just for us in the post, we had to be better in our plugs. … I said kudos to the guards cause we be seeing y’all on they a– on Twitter and like that, so I need y’all to just let them hoop. It’s going to be a process.”
Still, the threat looms. One off-night, and the voices will pounce. That’s why she followed up with a calm, clear plea: “Just trust the process. Like give them some grace, give us some grace and give Tyler and just the staff grace, because this is a lot of our first and second years and it’s hard.”
In her last 5 games, Reese has scored 65 points, 61 rebounds, and 28 assists. She’s giving her all right now, and Coach Tyler Marsh will be counting on her to keep that momentum going, especially with Kamilla Cardoso sidelined for at least the next three games after a career-best outing in the same game. And Reese has made a demand from the fans regarding Cardoso.

Angel Reese wants Kamilla Cardoso to be an All-Star
Kamilla Cardoso saved her best for last before heading off to represent Brazil in the FIBA AmeriCup starting June 28. The 6’7″ center scored a career-high 27 points, adding 7 rebounds and 3 assists while shooting an impressive 10-of-15 from the field. And to top it all off? She drilled her first career three-pointer, too! Angel Reese didn’t hold back in praising her teammate’s standout performance, going as far as to say that Cardoso deserves to be an All-Star this season.
In the postgame press conference, Angel Reese made her case loud and clear. “This is the last week for All-Star voting. Kamilla–she should be an All-Star. It’s her first year, she could’ve got it last year as well. I mean, obviously you don’t put up 27 for nothing, like, against anybody. And she’s been consistent. Obviously, she’s going away, but that doesn’t take away what she’s done.”

After the first round of voting, Cardoso was 22nd on the list. So naturally, there’s going to be some debate. Does missing time for national duty hurt her chances? Maybe. But when it comes to Angel Reese, there’s no room for debate. Her recent dominant performances should absolutely earn her a spot in the All-Star game. What are your thoughts about it?
