Everyone’s got their favorite groove. It could be something as unconventional as strutting like peacocks to windmilling arms like you’re powering a carnival ride. In Courtney Williams’ case, it seems to be dropping into a low, bouncy shimmy that became the unofficial dance of the WNBA All-Star party. From hyping up Angel Reese to playfully toppling over with KMac, Williams kept the energy alive all night. In fact, her energy was so off the charts that it spilled into the very next day.
The Studbudz livestream of the All-Star weekend was probably the widest reach Williams’ popping personality has received. Before her moves in the dim-lit club became the talking point of the weekend, she was livening up the Lynx locker room with that very energy. Hear it from Cheryl Reeve: “If you’re around Courtney, she lights up a room when she walks in. She’s easygoing. She is who she is, and it’s direct and authentic and all those things.”
In the arena, you’d probably see her dancing, pumping up the crowd, chest-bumping or air karate-chopping with teammates. So when The weekend of the WNBA season arrived, Williams did not care to dull down her personality. She brought that same vibe to player introductions at the WNBA All-Star matchup. Although this time, it came with a side of criticism and NSFW allegations from the fans. It stirred up almost the same buzz as when Sophie Cunningham went viral after the Indiana Fever’s Commissioner’s Cup win.

The Fever made franchise history with their 74-59 victory over the Minnesota Lynx on July 1, 2025. But that night, it wasn’t just the trophy grabbing attention. Postgame, a clip of Cunningham, 28, hit X. It showed her dropping low and dancing during Sydney Colson’s livestream. The moment quickly set social media ablaze. And today, the BricksCenter posted a video on X of Courtney Williams.

The Lynx star stole the spotlight during intros with pink hair popping, breaking into a cheeky dance, and capping it off with a playful little hand sign. Let’s look what the people had to say now…
Fans Had Thoughts on Courtney Williams’ ‘Act’…
Well, Sophie Cunningham and Courtney Williams aren’t exactly breaking new ground. Twerking in pro basketball isn’t as rare as you’d think. Remember the 2007 All-Star Game practice? Yeah, we can’t believe we’re saying this either, but that’s when Shaquille O’Neal decided to outdo LeBron James… by twerking. Years later, Shaq even upped the ante. He posted a clip of himself with his back to the camera, shaking to a Baby Shark remix.
One fan reminded everyone of that moment under Courtney’s video on X, writing, ‘So you’ve never heard of a basketball player named Shaquille O’Neal, huh?’ But not everyone was laughing. One outright went down the harsher route to say, “disgusting,” while another commenter complained, ‘This should not be tolerated. These players are role models to the youth. She’s acting like she’s in the club.’ Funny thing is, that ‘club’ vibe they’re talking about? It pretty much described the All-Star party the night before.

What’s your perspective on:
Is Courtney Williams' All-Star performance a breath of fresh air or crossing the line?
Have an interesting take?
There, not just Courtney and Angel Reese, but even Lynx and Team Collier head coach Cheryl Reeve and WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert were dancing along. And the spark behind all that movement? As we said, Courtney Williams, who was practically the engine of the night’s energy. Some people did notice that ‘ankle-breaking’ energy, though it came as more of a subtle jab at Courtney Williams’ spot on the roster.

One fan joked, ‘Not even subbed in yet and already breaking ankles 💀.’ This comment was a nod to the Lynx guard starting the night on the bench for Team Collier. Although, that actually wasn’t the only stinging, sarcastic jab that popped up.
One fan commented, ‘Yea and they want more money 😂😂.’ That was likely pointed at the constantly stalling CBA talks. But it’s not as funny as some might think. There are just 103 days left before the players could face a lockout if no deal is reached.
Cathy Engelbert’s statement after the All-Star weekend meetings did offer us some hope. She called the talks ‘constructive’ and said that she’s confident both sides can land a ‘transformational’ agreement. “I’m still really optimistic that we’ll get something done… and that next year at All-Star, we’ll be talking about how great everything is,” Engelbert said Saturday. “Obviously, there’s a lot of hard work to be done on both sides to get there.’

Still, that optimism didn’t last long. The WNBA All-Stars took the court wearing bold ‘Pay Us What You Owe Us’ shirts. That served as a visual reminder that negotiations are far from over. Another fan took the same jab a notch higher and wrote “”Pay us what you owe us.” Here’s two dollars and some envelopes.” Was that one celebratory move from Courtney Williams really so outrageous that it made some fans dismiss years of growth and struggle by WNBA players?
One thing’s certain, though, the celebrations aren’t slowing down anytime soon. And maybe, just maybe, the next happy dance will come with a freshly signed CBA that gives the players what they’ve been fighting for.
