Every sport has its own GOATs. Tennis boasts of having not one but multiple such players, including Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Serena Williams. But what is it that makes them the GOATs? Going beyond their unchallenged records and legacies, there is one thing that keeps them apart from other star players. And this is something that the former coach of the American teenage sensation, Coco Gauff, recently revealed.
In any sport, the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) are the players that young and up-and-coming athletes look up to. They emulate their style and pick one or two of their tricks.

Former coach of Coco Gauff reveals why Serena Williams, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic are the best
When we see the astounding records of these four players, the unprecedented resilience over the years to maintain their position at the peak comes into the picture. And this is something that takes more than passion to cultivate.
In a recent podcast, Getting a Grip, the former coach of Coco Gauff, Diego Moyano, dwells upon the undisputed legacies of these players. He started with, “There’s only one Roger Federer. It’s only one Novak Djokovic. How many Roger Federers? Well, we’d be like three million of Roger Federer and there’s not.”
Talking about the GOATs, he stated, “There’s just one Roger Federer, one Novak Djokovic, one Rafael Nadal, and one Serena Williams.” But how did they come to have that exclusivity? He stated, “It’s because they have that extra things, that extra weapon, they see the ball different.”

And this has separated them from others which others can try to emulate but not impersonate. He concluded with, “They have that extra thing that nobody has it and then they back up that with hard work.”
So, even if there are comparisons of the young tennis players with these tennis legends, Moyano feels no one can become their next version. If we talk about his former player, Coco Gauff, she herself has been compared to Serena Williams.

Gauff on refusing to become the next Serena
The 19-year-old American teenage sensation’s swift rise to the top has made people see her as the long-term successor of Serena Williams.
Considering the undue pressure that creates for her, Gauff herself shut down the comparison. She has very clearly stated that she does not want to be known as Williams’ heir, even if she idolizes her. Like any up-and-coming player, she wishes to create her own legacy.

Her recent run at the Eastbourne International might probably take her one step toward realizing that dream. If Gauff wins the title, it will be her fourth WTA singles title? Do you think Gauff can win? Let us know your views in the comments below.
