Recently, the 33-year-old Grand Slam champion has made it to the quarterfinals of the Indian Wells on her comeback route to tennis. After the fourth round of the tournament, during a post-match press conference, she was asked about her social media engagement as a tennis player. Not only that, she also detailed how there are some things they need to stay away from to maintain her mind on the court with all the hate going around on social media.

She said, “I think that’s the No. 1 thing to think about: You don’t become one of the best players in the world by listening to people who don’t really know tennis as well as you do. I think most importantly is to really care about what your team, what your family, and what you think of your game because when you look inside, you know deep down what you need to improve on, what you do well.”

Further, she also highlighted how she doesn’t spend a lot of time on social media anymore because she doesn’t have so much time, but every now and then she likes to keep her fans updated on what she is doing. Apart from this, she also advised that the people who spread negativity on social media are those who don’t know the real struggle that takes a tennis player to make it to the top.

This advice came to light after the 20-year-old ATP Carlos Alcaraz opened up about his struggles on dealing with giving his best on the court as well as handling social media negatively, during the same event.

Carlos Alcaraz on handling negativity online

The two-time Grand Slam champion recently disclosed that he has been trying hard not to read critical remarks on social media. The former world number one stated, “I’m trying not to think about it. I’m trying not to see 100 percent, the comments, but I think it’s something that we are not going to hide from that. There are a lot of people who are going to comment good things, bad things when we are not in the position to control it.”

Following his triumph at Wimbledon last year, the young Spaniard struggled a bit to win a title, which led to a lot of criticism from everyone, including his admirers, on social media. Furthermore, he acknowledged that athletes who are mentally attempting to give it their all on the court may be quickly demotivated by distracting criticism.
