Serena Williams, the American tennis legend, is one of the most beloved tennis professionals. She and her sister Venus have always been an inspiration, not only for young female athletes in tennis but also for women in other sectors.

However, Williams, being a down-to-earth person, doesn’t rank her achievements higher than women in different industries. In fact, the former World No.1 sometimes acts as a fan looking for opportunities to meet her idol. Recently, she was quite disappointed that she missed the chance to meet Shirley Manson of the band, Garbage.
Serena Williams reminisces about a missed opportunity
A few days back, Venus Williams, the seven-time Grand Slam champion, had a joyous encounter with Shirley Manson. Manson is the lead singer of the band Garbage and a fan of the Williams sisters. Therefore, upon getting a chance to meet Venus, the singer took to Instagram to share her happiness. Though when Serena found about the same, she was quite disheartened. As she wrote on one of her stories, “I can’t believe I missed this.”

Garbage is an American alternative rock band, with Shirley Manson as their lead singer. Apart from that, Manson also is an actress and was a part of the famous television series ‘Terminator’.

In addition, the band of four has received over 20 nominations while also being listed for Grammy and Brit awards.

How was growing up different for Venus and Serena?
Venus and Serena Williams were always under the strict supervision of their father, Richard Williams. Richard had his undivided focus on making his daughters fulfill their potential for greatness in tennis.

But the only adverse effect his passion had on both the former World No.1s life was that they missed out on a lot of things teenage girls used to do.

Further, the duo spent most of their time on the court. Therefore, they could not cherish their free spirited personalities back then. However, now that both the tennis aces have marked their name on the sport forever, they get their opportunities to involve in a plethora of activities outside of tennis.
