Chris Evert Narrated an Awkward Double-Date Experience With Friend Martina Navratilova as the Ice-Maiden Had a Crush on Legendary Singer Dean Martin’s Son

Tennis courts often give birth to on-court rivalries. A handful of these rivalries take a step further to turn into friendship. An apt example of it is Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova. Despite being arch on-court rivals, the two shared a gala time off the court. One of the off-court moments is an awkward date that the two went on.

Ever since their respective retirements, Evert and Navratilova have been regular participants in interviews and talk shows. Walking down memory lane, in 2010, Evert indulged in a conversation with a media house. During the conversation, she opened up about her double date with Navratilova and American singer, late Dino Martin.

As mentioned earlier, Evert and Navratilova were arch on-court rivals as well as best friends. As per reports, Martina was also the one who helped Evert meet her second husband, Alpine racer, Andy Mill. On the contrary, Evert knew about Navratilova’s sexual orientation even before she came out in 1981.

Building on the friendship, the two once went on a double date. Going back in time, the 70s was the time of pop music. Needless to say, the one that took the lead in the generation was Dean Paul Martin (Dino Martin). Having inherited his father Dean Martin’s looks, he was clearly the heartthrob of America.

Similar to every other single women in the States, Evert also ogled over Dino Martin. She eventually went on to ask the singer on a date. However, little did she know that she had paved her way to disappointment. While Evert hoped to go on a date with Martin, the American singer, on the other hand, asked if he could go out with Navratilova. Reportedly because he was mesmerized with Navratilova’s buff physique.

As amusing as it may sound, the legendary players went on a double date. While Navratilova went with Martin, they were joined by Evert, who came with ‘I love Lucy’ fame, Desi Arnaz.

While Navratilova went on the date, she was still the the process of figuring out her sexuality. Following the date, Navratilova asserted that she was still figuring herself out. Wearing her humor hat, Evert rolled her eyes as she went ahead and replied to her best friend. The former World No. 1 asserted that after a chaste date with Dino, her pal could have figured it out.
