Coco Gauff has returned to her top form after a bitter-sweet run in the past season. The American sensation invoked positive changes to her coaching camp and the results are paying off. However, as the New Year is moments away, she has made a healthy resolution to follow in 2025.

Gauff is currently performing at the season-opening United Cup. And alongside Taylor Fritz, she has led her Team USA to the quarterfinals after exacting revenge on her Paris Olympic nemesis. The 20-year-old locked horns with Donna Vekic for the second time this year, after the Croatian got the better of her at the Games in Paris for the first time. Poised to remedy her unfortunate loss, the American star scripted a perfect performance, outclassing Vekic 6-4 6-2 in Perth.

Fritz, meanwhile, overpowered Borna Coric in straight sets as well, ensuring USA’s qualification to the quarterfinals. After winning the contest, Gauff was asked about her New Year’s resolutions which she wasn’t very receptive about at first. But later, she highlighted that she would be looking to read more books in 2025 after reading nearly 16 novels this year. For those unaware, Gauff’s book-reading hobby matches the vibe of her rival and Polish No. 1 Iga Swiatek who is known for her love of books and describes herself as a “bookworm”.

The former World No. 1 even launched a 12-book challenge at the start of the 2023 season and upon completing the quest halfway, she challenged fans to #ReadWithIga on World Book Day. “I’ve already read 5 or 6 books (I lost count of how many).”

Gauff riding on the back of a similar passion, during an on-court interview, said, “I’ma try to read more books. This year I read like 16 (books) or something like that so I’ma try to go for like 22, let’s go for that.” Gauff went through a rollercoaster in 2024. Amid her serving woes and losing to lower-ranked players, the 20-year-old split with ex-coach Brad Gilbert and joined forces with Matt Daly. Days after announcing the switch, Gauff proceeded to win the China Open title during the Asian swing.

She wrote, “Very random but I met Mr. Carter when I was a kid. We were on a road trip and stopped in the middle of nowhere in Georgia at a McDonald’s to get some food. And randomly he was using the urinal next to my dad lol. We kept seeing people suited up and armed but just assumed it was because we were in the middle of nowhere Georgia around Valdosta. But turns out they were just secret service agents. Eating our food with my mom, my dad walks out of the bathroom with the former President like they were long-time friends. He was extremely nice to us and a memory I will never forget. RIP.”

Gauff, alongside her Team USA, will next take to the court on Thursday, January 2 for their quarterfinal encounter against China at the United Cup in Sydney. Are you backing the former US Open champion to guide America to the United Cup title?
