Williams’ family once could not afford to have a decent area to live in because of their economic conditions is wrong. Richard Williams believed in the tough training of both of his daughters, Venus and Serena Williams. And that is exactly what he wanted with their upbringing too. He wanted to raise them into rough and tough human beings, both on and off the court.

Things were not bad for the Williams family financially. They could have easily shifted to a different and safer area. However, Richard Williams was of the belief that his children needed to be rough and tough, both in their training and upbringing. In an old interview, the father opened up about his rough traits of Compton.

He said, “There was no place in the world that was rougher than Compton.” He stated, “The ghetto will make you rough, it’ll make you tough, it’ll make you strong. And so that’s why I went to Compton with them.”
