The legendary presenter for Wimbledon opens up about her absence this season
In an interview with Daily Mail, as reported by express.co.uk, the former world No. 3 player revealed why she turned down a contract extension for hosting the BBC’s coverage of Wimbledon. Sue Barker said that the previous season’s grass-court major was the ‘right’ time to bid adieu to her broadcasting stint.
The British tennis legend also said that it has always been her “dream job” and she has loved hosting the event alongside some great colleagues. However, during a phase, the 67-year-old thought of stepping aside from the duties as the hours were becoming quite long and challenging. She said, “When I started I never thought I would manage 30 years. I had actually made up my mind to leave in 2017 because the hours were becoming very long and quite challenging.”
But, Barker later decided to continue her broadcasting role for BBC and she eventually retired with no regrets in the previous season. She said, “I’m very happy to be leaving with no regrets and on my own terms while I am still on top of the job. It just feels like the right time to go and leave it to others.”

The tennis community will not get to witness Barker as the host for the grass-court major this season. However, the fans will be delighted to know that there is another prominent figure who has taken up a major role in the tournament in London.
