Eugenie Bouchard was supposed to be the next big player in women’s tennis after Serena Williams. However, numerous injuries have prevented the Canadian to perform consistently at the highest level.

She established herself on the big stage in 2014. In that year, she made a couple of semi-final appearances at the Australian Open and the French Open. Further, in the same season, she finished as the runners-up at The Championships, Wimbledon, losing to Petra Kvitova in the summit clash. Further, her fantastic season enabled her to reach a career-best ranking of No. 5 that year.

Over the last year, the 27-year-old is out of the WTA tour due to injuries. Recently, she displayed a unique racket and practiced with it.

The former World Number 5 took to Instagram to display her grandmother’s wooden racket. Subsequently, she took it to the tennis court to practice with that racket. Describing the racket, she said, “obviously the string is old but this racket is so soft. Felt so good for my shoulder.”

Further, she asked the fans, “Should I use this for my comeback?” Additionally, she posted a story in which she hit a series of forehands and said, “thought I was gonna whiff this.”

The Canadian’s injury struggles

Bouchard has been out of action for almost a year now due to a torn subscapularis in her right shoulder. Further, in June last year, she decided to undergo an arthroscopic surgery that ruled her out for the remainder of the 2021 season.

She last played at the Abierto GNP Seguros in Monterrey, Mexico in March 2021. Her long absence from the tour has significantly affected her rankings. She has dropped to Number 331 in the WTA rankings chart. Following her surgery, she has returned to light training sessions now. She regularly shares glimpses of her training sessions with her fans on Instagram.
