The Eastern European conflict has taken a toll on the tennis players of the affected region like Dayana Yastremska. With their loved ones back home, they have had difficult times playing in tournaments across the globe. Furthermore, they have been away from their families for quite a while now.

Players like Sergiy Stakhovsky and Elina Svitolina have taken the matter into their own hands to support the people back home. Additionally, fellow players on the tour have spoken in support of the players from Ukraine and supported them.
Recently, World Number 92, Dayana Yastremska, was in the United States to participate at the Billie Jean King Cup. She opened up about the situation back home.
Dayana Yastremska wishes to return home
During an interview at the Billie Jean King Cup, Yastremska was asked when she will return to her native country. She said, “Huh-uh. I don’t have any idea. I don’t know. It’s also pretty tough for me to make the tournament schedule because my ranking now is not so good, so I don’t know where I’m going to get in, where not. Grand Slam main draw…”

Further, the 21-year-old added, “Everything you have to see. I don’t know when I’m going to be back home, I really want to go there, I really want to see my family. I don’t have any plans, any ideas, because you don’t know how it’s going to be.”

Last week, Dayana Yastremska represented Ukraine at the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers against the United States in Asheville. She played a memorable match against Alison Riske, where the two were involved in a 34-point tie-breaker. The American eventually won the match in straight sets 7-6 (18-16), 7-5.

However, she made a strong comeback in her next match. Yastremska defeated Jessica Pegula to keep the Ukrainian hopes alive in the tie. The Americans eventually won the deciding doubles encounter to enter the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.
