Chris Evert is a warrior both on and off the court. This is something that fans have seen over the years. The former tennis player never gave in to her inhibitions on the court and fought her way out of hurdles. However, her younger sister passed away at the age of 60 due to ovarian cancer, and this affected Evert.

It made Evert aware of her own cancer diagnosis, and she overcame the disease. However, she missed her sister and mourned her loss dearly.
Chris Evert missed her younger sister after her sad demise
Former world no. 1 was diagnosed with 1C ovarian cancer, which she has battled through until recently. She completed all her rounds of chemotherapy and was declared cancer-free.
However, similar results did not yield for her younger sister, Jeanne Evert Dubin. She was also diagnosed with ovarian cancer. By the time it was detected, it had reached the severe stages, and therefore, she could not be saved.

She recently expressed her thoughts about it and questioned, “Why her?”
The loss of her younger sibling shook Evert. She said, “I’m the older one. I’m supposed to go first. Sometimes I think that.”
Tennis players and their battle with cancer
Facing an opponent on the opposite side of the court is a difficult task. The players have to mind their own game as well as tackle the opponent’s attacks, too. But the battle with a disease like cancer is like battling with an unknown opponent who does not play by the rules.

Evert battled it and interestingly, her arch-rival Martina Navratilova too battled cancer in 2010. The player battled it bravely, however, she had called it her ‘personal 9/11’. They had met each other on the court a whopping 80 times in 15 years and were both aggressive players.

However, both the personalities supported each other during their diagnosis and wished for each other’s quick recovery. Now both of them raise awareness about cancer and appeal to get regular checkups.
