The Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery will soon include portraits of both Venus and Serena Williams, alongside 23000 other legendary humans. Venus and Serena Williams are two of the greatest athletes of all time. Along with their impressive records in tennis, the duo brought crucial changes, such as equal prize money at Wimbledon.

Due to their remarkable careers, they have become a role model for the coming generation. Therefore, their contribution to the sport and society is getting deserved appreciation. To the many awards and honors they have received, an impactful addition is about to be made in the form of portraits in the Smithsonian Gallery.

Portraits depicting Venus and Serena Williams’ legacy 

The Gallery will introduce seven new portraits in October 2023. Out of that, two will be based on the Williams sisters. A joyous Serena Williams by Toyin Ojih Odutola and the duplicity of Venus Williams visualized by Robert Pruitt will be exhibited on the museum’s first floor.

Further, apart from them, Anthony Fauci, the American physician-scientist and Emmy-winning filmmaker Ava DuVernay, will also receive the honor. “We always say, If you can’t see it, you can’t become it,” the director of the National Portrait Gallery, Kim Sajet said while addressing the new collection.

Thereafter, she added. “Commissioning portraits provides us with the opportunity to ensure that the leaders of today—artists included—will inspire future generations.”

The historic art museum has portraits of prominent leaders of yesteryears, all the while adding present day legends. Thus packaging a full ride for the coming generation.

Starting with the 23 times Grand Slam champion, Serena Williams said goodbye to her 27-year-long illustrious career this year. She stepped away from the sport after playing in the hard courts of the US Open this year. Now Serena is diverting her energy towards strengthening her business empire and creating core memories with her family.

Speaking of the elder sister Venus, she is still optimistic about her career. The seven-times Grand Slam champion rejoined the circuit after around a year gap and is currently preparing for the 2023 season.
