Maria Sharapova, the Russian tennis sensation’s time on the tennis circuit, has made her a renowned personality. In 2019, she praised renowned Hollywood actor Emilia Clarke for being a ‘ray of light’ for millions of her fans.

In one of her stories on Instagram, the former Russian star praised an article written about the actor and her struggle with life-threatening health issues.

 

Maria Sharapova praised Emilia Clarke

In 2019, Emilia Clarke had given an interview where she talked about her grave health issues. The actress had undergone two brain surgeries that were extremely risky.

The former world no. 1 shared the article on her Instagram story and declared that Clarke is a ‘ray of light’. Sharapova also stated that she has never seen Game of Thrones, the show that thrusted Clarke into the limelight for playing the role of Daenerys Targaryen.

However, she had met the actress in real life and therefore commented on her delightful nature. She stated, “This piece is incredibly inspiring. Full disclosure. I have never watched game of thrones but I have met Emilia Clarke and she is a ray of light.”

Sharapova’s arch-rival Serena Williams is retiring

Maria Sharapova claimed five grand slam titles during her glorious career. Maybe she would have claimed more, had it not been for her arch-rival, Serena Williams. The American player recently announced her retirement after being active for 27 years on the tennis circuit. The two players met each other 22 times on the tour and Serena Williams comfortably leads the H2H series between the two with 20 victories in their 22 matches.
