AEW made its debut with a bang in 2019 and the wrestling world was glad for an alternative to WWE. Tony Khan’s company has managed to gain a lot of hardcore fans and also had several successful PPVs. However, a recent comparison shows AEW might not be heading in the ideal direction. Surprisingly, fans are blaming CM Punk’s backstage brawl at the point where this started.

Despite having some of the best matches at AEW Revolution PPV, Khan might have to up his game when it comes to fan interest. A recent comparison with WWE’s Elimination Chamber shows worrying numbers for AEW.

Shocking results of comparisons between WWE Elimination Chamber and AEW Revolution

Elimination Chamber turned out to be one of the most successful PLEs for WWE in recent months. With the event held in Canada and Sami Zayn‘s main eventing the show, WWE made wonders with the PLE.

On the other hand, Revolution happened earlier this week on Sunday. MJF and Bryan Danielson headlined the show in a 60-minute Iron Man match for the AEW World Title. The match got widespread praise from the fans, yet it seems AEW wasn’t able to capitalize on the fan fare.

AEW Wrestlers Stamp Their Authority Over Ex-WWE Superstars at the Revolution PPV

As per WrestleTalk‘s report, Dave Meltzer recently shared the results of the comparisons of Google searches between both the shows on his Wrestling Observer Newsletter. He wrote, “This show (Revolution) did 50,000 searches and was No. 12 for the day in the U.S.”

Meltzer added, “That compares to 500,000 that WWE did for Elimination Chamber, and AEW had frequently since 2021 beaten WWE in Google searches for PPVs in the same few-week period, even to the point that the 2021 All Out beat WWE’s SummerSlam.”

This is worrisome news for AEW as the fans are the crux of any wrestling show going around. There have been times AEW has defeated WWE when it comes to trending on Google and being in the eye of the general audience, but the scenes have reversed since the CM Punk and The Elite debacle last year.

Wrestling fans claim CM Punk’s departure as the reason for AEW’s dismal numbers

CM Punk’s professional wrestling return was celebrated as a festival by wrestling fans. After a long seven-year wait, many thought Punk will take AEW to the next level. Things kicked off well, but there was an unfortunate halt to his AEW career due to the events of the All Out PPV backstage brawl.

CM Punk’s absence could be a major factor in declining AEW interest.
