Before enthralling the AEW crowd, pro wrestling legend Sting served in various other promotions, including the WWE. But arguably his best run was with the World Championship Wrestling promotion, where he wrestled for over a decade. As a performer who started in the 80s, Sting’s style is different from most wrestlers today. Back then, wrestling was more hardcore than it is currently. Sting is used to the hardcore stuff.

It showed during one of the recent matches at AEW Dynamite. The 64-year-old threw caution to the wind as he performed a move that many wouldn’t even dare to attempt. Fans, however, weren’t happy with the wrestler’s daredevilry. But before getting to the fans’ reactions, let’s find out how it unfolded.

On the aforementioned episode of AEW Dynamite on June 28, Sting and Darby Allin teamed up to clash with Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara in a tornado tag team match. The 15-time world champion made Jericho tap out, but it came at a cost.

As the match reached its crescendo, Allin set up a ladder to jump on Guevara, who lay on a table. However, Sting decided to take it upon himself to perform the gravity-defying stunt and enthrall the crowd. While there was considerable noise as the 64-year-old climbed up the ladder and prepared for the leap, many fans were also shocked to see him do it.

Even the commentators gasped and frequently wondered what the legend was up to. But it fell short of being a spectacle as Sting couldn’t go through the tables properly, which, had the move been done rightly, would have yielded. As per reports, after the episode went off the air, Sting told the crowd that he had lost a tooth and would need stitches.

On the other hand, fans weren’t pleased with Sting putting himself in such a risky spot. The wrestler had put himself in harm’s way just days ago, at AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door.

‘Unnecessary’, says fans as The Stinger takes a dive

While part of wrestling is its daredevil moves, fans are also mindful of who’s doing it. In this case, they appeared to be aware of Sting’s age, which is well past retirement. Had it been done by Allin, this would have garnered more positive reactions, but alas! Not for Sting.

While it’s not clear if the wrestler attempted this for a cheap pop, like this fan mentioned, the latter most likely got it right with the second part of the comment: “Bruh risking his life for a cheap pop. No one will remember this after a week 🤦‍♂️”

This fan has a reminder for the legend: “Sting & ric flair need to stop this madness 😭 the glory days are over bro”

If only Sting paid heed to what others, like this user, think of his age: “Exactly what I imagined a 64yr old man jumping off a ladder that far away would look like…. Please sting just stop”

It was “unnecessary” deems a Sting fan: “Complete botch, still love Sting but holy f**k that was unnecessary”

The emotion this person brings out via their comment encompasses what many fans felt after Sting took that leap: “Yoooo nahhhhhhhhhhh bro is hurt af u can see it he didn’t break the table that hurt his body oooouuu shiiii damn”
