Before his streak of Royal Rumble victories and WrestleMania main events, Cody Rhodes served as an Executive Vice President of All Elite Wrestling (AEW). He was one visionary behind AEW’s inception in 2019 alongside Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks. Rhodes’ ambition and expertise also inspired Darby Allin to leave his previous promotion and come to AEW!

Over the next three years, Rhodes played a pivotal role in building AEW, contributing as a prominent in-ring talent, mentor, and executive backstage. Despite his departure from AEW and nearing the end of his WWE story, the crowd chanted his name during a recent episode of AEW Dynamite when Darby Allin made an EVP reference.

A recent Twitter post by Fightful Wrestling revealed the AEW crowd’s love for Cody Rhodes. On tonight’s AEW Dynamite episode, the crowd cheered for former AEW EVP and current WWE star Rhodes. In the video, Darby Allin took aim at the Young Bucks, bringing up their prior actions and the fact that they passed over him when signing him, whereas his “California Crew” buddies signed him. Allin’s critique centered on the Bucks’ status as EVPs. Interestingly, Allin acknowledged to an EVP at the beginning of AEW that he was grateful to someone with a sharp mind—a strong indication that “I am not talking about Kenny Omega”.

To recognize Rhodes’ distinction as one of the original EVPs with the Bucks and Omega, the audience erupted in a raucous cry of “Cody! Cody! Cody!”
