“Not Taking a Back Seat”: Days After ‘Secondary Promotion’ Jibe, Tony Khan Fires Back at Triple H With Brutal Claim for AEW All In

Just hours have passed since WWE’s Head of Creative Triple H took a subtle jibe at rival promotion, All Elite Wrestling. Not willing to back down, its owner Tony Khan has shot back at the WWE legend’s claim. Khan and his team, who are awaiting their biggest pay-per-view event, All In, scheduled for August 27 at the iconic Wembley Stadium in London, United Kingdom, reminded the 54-year-old why they matter.

Khan, however, expressed no animosity towards Cody Rhodes, whose documentary kickstarted the controversy.

Before 2019, the WWE enjoyed a peerless run in the world of pro wrestling. And while it still happens to be the big dog, Khan’s AEW has emerged as a credible challenger. To their credit, the Jacksonville-based promotion has been able to reach the position in just four years.

While it still doesn’t boast the kind of ratings and fandom WWE enjoys, AEW, according to Tony Khan, is no less. “We’re No. 1 in the UK, on TV and with a record gate,” he told Orlando Sentinel in an exclusive chat recently.

Khan also responded to Triple H’s barb of being a ‘secondary promotion’. The Game made the comments in Cody Rhodes’ documentary- American Nightmare: Becoming Cody Rhodes. After The American Nightmare spoke about leaving AEW and the byproduct of re-joining the WWE, Triple H said Rhodes realized, “… this is not what I wanted to be. I didn’t grow up dreaming of being the champion or the face of a secondary promotion. I wanted to be the WWE champion.”

This irked many fans, who protested online. The latest dissent comes from Khan. “…for the first time in a long time, WWE has been secondary in a lot of markets. … I’m proud of where we’re at and we’re not taking a back seat to anybody,” he said.

This was, however, not the first time that Triple H has been rude towards WWE’s competitors. Just a few days ago, he was seen liking a tweet from a former WWE and current AEW employee, about a fan’s perception of the two promotions.

On the other hand, Tony Khan and AEW are also on the brink of history.

AEW awaits a massive milestone on August 2

As stated above, AEW started four years ago. Since its inception in 2019, the promotion has been steady in its progress. They have added many pro wrestlers from around the world to bolster their roster.

On August 2, AEW’s flagship program, Dynamite, which airs live, will mark its 200th episode. Sharing his thoughts about the milestone moment, Khan said, “The 200th episode is important to the network and to the fans. It’s a major milestone for Dynamite.”

The episode is likely to have announcements regarding the upcoming All In PPV. A video package shared by AEW on its official Instagram profile chose 200 moments from the show’s 4-year run to mark the special occasion.

Khan, who is betting heavily on All In, will pray for its success. If the show manages to break WWE’s record, Triple H will surely have to eat a humble pie, if not, he will get the bragging rights riding on the massive success of WrestleMania 39 and subsequent PLEs around the world.
