The entire pro wrestling landscape changed after AEW fired CM Punk recently. While a suspension was always on the horizon, many didn’t expect Tony Khan to take such a drastic step towards removing arguably their biggest draw. With Punk out of AEW, rumors are running rampant that he will once again grace WWE after 9 years.

However, with an old clip now resurfacing on the internet, featuring Triple H, the chances of Punk ever returning to WWE look almost nil.

After he took to X, Tony Khan stunned the world by stating that he had terminated Punk’s contract with AEW. The developments transpired after the infamous backstage brawl between Jack Perry and Punk at All In in Wembley.

While the investigation was underway, several reports claimed that Punk sucker punched Perry and went for a choke. Superstars later intervened and broke up the scene. The whole incident led to Khan suspending both the fighters.

With Khan eventually firing Punk, many believed that he could return to Payback, as there were reports of him being spotted at Pittsburgh, which was later reported as false.

Now an old clip involving Triple H has surfaced on the internet. The clip is from Hunter’s interview with Stone Cold Steve Austin on Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Sessions in 2015. In the clip, Hunter talks about Punk, and how “He’s hard to get to know. He doesn’t talk, he doesn’t communicate well.”

You can watch the video below:

While fans are still hoping for Punk to return to WWE since this was said a few years ago, the friction between Punk and HHH is evident in the clip. With so much animosity and Punk’s sour departure in 2014 still holding importance, it seems unlikely for Triple H to approach Punk for a return to WWE.

But how exactly did Punk leave WWE and why does his means of departure hold significant importance in WWE history?

Punk’s bitter exit from WWE

In 2014, the Raw after the Royal Rumble PLE, CM Punk walked out of WWE leaving millions of fans heartbroken. Though the reasons included being burned out and working through fatal injuries, it was a lot more for Punk.

After years of dominating WWE with the Summer of Punk in 2011 and his historic reign of 434 days as WWE champion, the Straight Edge superstar wanted to headline WrestleMania. Also, being sour of having dropped his title to Dwayne Johnson at the Royal Rumble, the 44-year-old wanted to main event WrestleMania 29 in a triple threat match between The Rock, John Cena, and himself.

Following the same trend, Punk also missed out on main eventing WrestleMania 30.  Reports suggested that WWE apparently wanted him to face Triple H. Eventually, the poor booking led to him confronting Vince McMahon and Triple H after the Royal Rumble in 2014, before walking out the next day.
