Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns are pro wrestlers who happen to be the most dominating and influential stars in the fraternity. Both of them are the current champions at WWE. However, fans still remember that the two had a humble beginning at WWE. The two are famous from their days at the righteous stable The Shield. While the two are still at WWE, the third member of the stable left the promotion way back.

Recently, an AEW star praised The Shield’s former member and the champions’ close friend Jon Moxley, who is popularly known as Dean Ambrose.

In a recent interview, AEW’s current International Champion, Orange Cassidy, shared how influential Ambrose is at the company. While talking about Moxley’s involvement at the company and his in-ring skills, Cassidy stated that he is someone a lot of people at AEW look up to. “I think a lot of people look to Jon Moxley for leadership.” He also added, ” I am too, like Jon Moxley, a person who leads by example and I saw the example that he was setting and I was like, ‘You know, I want to do that.'”

However, as The King of Sloth Style further added, it is not everyone’s cup of tea to be like Moxley. While he did say that he tried to be like the Street Dog of AEW, Cassidy further added, ” I try. I try, but no one can be Jon Moxley because there is no (other) Jon Moxley.”

Ambrose, now commonly known as Moxley, announced his AEW debut in May 2019. He is one of the few stars who has been with the promotion since its inception. While he did see a lot of success during his time at WWE, he decided to leave the company due to creative disputes.

Fans were excited when they got to know that they would be able to see Ambrose back in action. However, what made them more happy was the return of his old gimmick.

Origin of Jon Moxley

Moxley, real name Jonathan David Good, posted a clip on his X (formerly Twitter) account showing that he had broken out of prison and would be returning to pro wrestling. While it was not announced where he would be heading, he made an unannounced debut at AEW’s inaugural event Double or Nothing. There he attacked Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega, and the referee following their match.  This helped in establishing the Moxley gimmick as an anti-hero-esque character. However, Moxley has a long history.

Moxley is more than just a gimmick for good. It was his first-ever gimmick when he started wrestling at the age of 18. He made his pro wrestling debut at Hartland Wrestling Association where he used to sell popcorn and set up rings while learning the art under Les Thatcher and Cody Hawk. Since his debut in 2004, he was known as Jon Moxley in the independent circuit until he joined WWE in 2011. While it was just a name at the beginning of his career, he decided to do more justice to the name by adding some character to it. Which gimmick do you like more? Dean Ambrose or Jon Moxley? How do you think Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns might react to this news?

One take at a time

For me pro wrestling has two things that I like the most, storytelling and fighting. Let?s just say movies are failing to keep me entertained in those departments. I grew up watching WWF and not WWE and any hardcore fan will agree that the two are not the same, but I love both iterations.
