Ever since he lost the WrestleMania 39 match against Roman Reigns, fans have been booking Cody Rhodes for a rematch against the Undisputed Universal Champion. The fanbase came up with the popular ‘finish your story’ tagline for Cody Rhodes‘ feud. Now that fans are getting the dream rematch that they wanted and rebelled for, a WWE legend has talked about the same.

While conversing with the co-hosts of the Busted Open Podcast, Shawn Michaels shared his thoughts on Cody Rhodes’ main event on Night 2 at WrestleMania 40. Although HBK didn’t conclude the results, he predicted the consequences of whatever direction WWE chooses to go.

WWE may fumble if they let Cody Rhodes lose

There have been several hints regarding Cody Rhodes ‘finishing his story’ this year. One of them was the fact that WWE 2k24 had Rhodes’ story as its tagline this year. The American Nightmare almost gave up the Night 2 main event. The situation turned around and the storyline is back on track.

When Dave LaGreca asked Shawn Michaels on his show for his thoughts on the WrestleMania 40 main event, the legend replied, “It’s going to be a huge moment if Cody can make that happen.” He claimed that we never know when WWE might want to turn the story around.

Michaels further added, “If it happens, it’ll be an absolutely glorious moment for him and a huge recognition of what he’s accomplished. But if Roman says it isn’t happening, and he goes out there and makes that so, it’s a big hill decline, let’s just put it that way.”

According to the wrestling legend, it might fire back at WWE if the promotion lets The Tribal Chief retain the champion at the biggest PLE ever. However, there is a way that increases Cody Rhodes’ chance of winning.

Cody Rhodes may defeat Roman Reigns after all

So far, we have seen The Tribal Chief use various antics to find his way to victory. Even at WrestleMania XL, it is being foreshadowed that The Bloodline may continue this approach if Roman Reigns and The Rock secure a victory during night one of the PLE. Due to the Bloodline Rules that will apply on the main event of the second night, it would become harder for Cody Rhodes to win.

However, there is a possibility that Dwayne Johnson will come to aid Cody Rhodes in his quest to defeat the Anoa’i head. This is not because of a potential face turn, but because of the greed that The Brahma Bull carries in him, to overthrow “The Head of the Table”.
