Cody Rhodes won the 2024 Royal Rumble and earmarked Roman Reigns without hesitation. He stuck to his idea on the latest edition of RAW and everything pointed to the bout being made official this Friday on SmackDown. However, it didn’t. The Tribal Chief and Rhodes shared a segment, and in a surprising move, Rhodes aimed for Rollins’ belt and said he wanted “everything” from Roman Reigns, but not at WrestleMania 40.

In fact, he had a different opponent in mind as the music of The Rock played. The legend gave The American Nightmare a hug following which he left the ring for familial matters to take center stage. Johnson had an intense confrontation with his cousin, and that was the end of it. WrestleMania will most likely have the two squaring off. And according to a source, Roman Reigns is most likely to win the match.

The odds are in Roman Reign’s favor

Reliable figure Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select recently unveiled a tidbit about the outcome of the potential WrestleMania bout. According to the pro-wrestling journalist, people are betting in favor of Reigns winning the match. And now that we’re talking about backstage happening, do you know how the WWE came up with the idea to set this match?

The veteran wanted the match

According to a report by PWInsider, it was the Rock who pushed hard for the fight to take place. And as later reported by Fighful Select, several people have claimed that, indeed, The Rock pushed to wrestle Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40. And not only that, some believe that he has even pushed to win the fight, although it is unknown what will actually happen. Some in WWE claimed to have heard since the afternoon of the Royal Rumble that Johnson had agreed to face the Tribal Chief. Also, that weekend, there was special merchandising prepared related to The Rock being ‘The Head of the Table’.

As for the match, it seems that Rock will try to have a match that is not exactly short, but there is some concern about this due to Rock’s performances in the ring in his last few appearances. Many are hopeful that WWE/TKO will change their stance after seeing the mostly negative reaction to the decision to hold Roman Reigns vs. The Rock at WrestleMania.

Although it is unknown when exactly Cody Rhodes knew what was happening, it has been revealed that on Friday he already knew and traveled to SmackDown knowing that The Rock was going to be Roman Reigns’ opponent at WrestleMania 40. So it seems like it was no last-minute decision. What are your thoughts on it? Do you want to see the two cousins battle it out at WrestleMania 40? Let us know in the comments!
