CM Punk and Stone Cold Steve Austin are two of the greatest representatives of their respective generations in WWE. So much so that many fans have dreamed for many years of a fight between them at some point. This possibility was rumored more than 10 years ago when both starred in a segment on RAW and another in a WWE 2K13 promotion, but it did not happen. With Punk quitting WWE in 2014 and Stone Cold retired, it seemed impossible that it would happen. However, so many years later, everything has changed.

CM Punk is finally back on the roster since his return in Survivor Series after almost a decade. And now the door has opened again for a match against Austin. This might already have been hinted at by the WWE. Or at least is an insane case of foreshadowing that goes back 25 years. The Texas Rattlesnake was added to the WWE Hall of Fame back in 2009. And a video of that induction package is going viral on the internet. And why? Because the music being played in the vignette of Austin’s career wasn’t his theme, instead it was CM Punk’s ‘Cult of Personality.’

This has led fans to speculate that the WWE might have planned to have a feud between the two. It is worth noting that this video package is from 2009 while Punk made Cult of Personality his entry song in 2011. But it does not mean that the match cannot take place. Austin came out of retirement at WrestleMania 38 to have one last match. The WWE legend defeated Kevin Owens in the main event on the first night of the event, leaving fans, his opponent and himself satisfied.

Following this, Austin confessed that there were plans for a new match at WrestleMania 39, but none of them came to fruition. So maybe now we can get to see the Cult of Personality face the Rattlesnake at WrestleMania 41 or SummerSlam?

Fans want the dream match to take place

The fans want the match to happen. As soon as they saw the post, they flooded the comment section with their desires. One fan believes that this is a dream match, and it should surely take place. It may be the last dream match left as we have already seen incredible matches like ‘The Rock vs. Cena’ and ‘The Undertaker vs. Triple H‘. Calling this another dream match to be fought yet, the user wrote “Possibly the last dream match left.”

Some fans even had match cards prepared. A fan wanted two main events for both nights of WrestleMania. They wrote, “Rock vs. Roman, Punk vs. Austin”. But another fan believed that CM Punk fighting at SummerSlam against Seth Rollins should precede the Austin bout as that is another match viewers missed because of CM Punk’s injury at the Royal Rumble. The user wrote “Seth vs. Punk – SummerSlam, Austin Vs Punk- Mania?.” Well, another fan agreed, though they wanted it to be WrestleMania 42 instead, “Punk vs Stone Cold Wrestlemania 42 lock in???”.

What about the video package and promotion? Well, according to one fan, this video is good enough to be made the official video package for the match, “Half the video package is already made.” Punk and Austin starred in a segment on the June 13, 2011 episode of Monday Night Raw. And were later part of the promotion of the video game WWE ’13. The game featured the Chicago wrestler as the cover image.

Since then, they have not been seen together on a wrestling show again. It remains to be seen if this dream fight ends up taking place. And, if so, in what scenario it would take place?
