If there is anything to be learned from Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson‘s heel turn in the 2000s, it’s the fact that he is a savage on the mic. Ruthless and unforgiving, Johnson proved he could stop a wrestler’s push with just a promo. However, that was the Attitude Ear, and times were simpler. Wrestlers were given free reign over their promos, as anything that wasn’t too harsh could be openly said. Cut to 2024, and we live in a society with guidelines for what wrestlers can and cannot say, even on social media. And this seems to be a point of contention for Johnson.
WWE talent question why an exception is being made for Dwayne Johnson
If you watch any of The Rock’s promos since his heel turn at the WrestleMania XL Kickoff event, a ton of non-PG explicit language is used. Be in the ring or on social media, Johnson has cursed out Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, cities, and random fans. While this is a nostalgic reminder of what The Rock was back in the 2000s, WWE higher-ups aren’t too happy about it. According to a report by SEScoops, the foul language Johnson used in his last social media promo has caused a bit of a stir backstage. Moreover, the question of double standards has also been raised.

WWE Superstars are rarely heard cursing in promos or on social media. While this is part of Johnson’s heel character, it seems he has crossed a line. According to the report, a memo was circulated by WWE executives. This included Nick Khan, Paul Levesque, and Dan Ventrelle. The memo reminded the WWE talent to adhere to the PG guidelines. This applies to both television and social media platforms. This clearly shows that despite being the biggest star on the roster and a member of the Board of Directors for TKO, Johnson isn’t an exception.

While The Rock’s promos have generated a lot of attention from the WWE Universe, it seems like it did the same from the locker room. Speculation suggests that other WWE talents have voiced their frustrations. By allowing Johnson to say whatever he likes, he becomes more natural and better sounding during promos. The same cannot be said about the rest of the WWE stars. They have to tailor their words to ensure they follow the guidelines. Do you think this will change Johnson’s next promo on SmackDown or on social media? Will he use his power to break the rules? Let us know your thoughts down below.
