The pro wrestling world has been taken by storm as CM Punk returned to WWE. Punk made his way to the Survivor Series arena, which erupted with cheers when his theme song, ‘Cult of Personality’ hit. However, while everyone was excited about the return of The Best in the World, AEW’s Tony Khan was excited about something else.

The comeback of CM Punk is making waves left, right, and center. Seemingly indifferent to this, his former employer Tony Khan took to X to actively promote an AEW event. But, this was met with ruthless trolling as WWE fans reacted to his post and trashed him with their comments.

The CM Punk return rumors have been circling on the internet for what feels like an eternity. The saga of CM Punk, WWE, and AEW carries a lot of drama that spans several years of strife. Just this August, Punk was fired from AEW by Tony Khan after a backstage incident with another wrestler. Ever since the AEW released him though, his WWE comeback rumors, as well as demands, escalated by several decibels. This was the second time Punk was fired from a company after WWE did the same back in 2014.

His decorated WWE stint saw him winning multiple championships, including a Triple Crown and a 434-day WWE Championship. However, he developed some backstage issues with the staff that put him directly against them. Now, delivering what the WWE Universe desperately wanted, Triple H brought Punk back to the show on Survivor Series. But, while everyone was marveling at the great event, Tony Khan promoted an AEW match, just like he usually would.

Tony Khan tweeted, “Thank you all watching #AEWCollision + #AEWRampage tonight! Now it’s our TV main event with a 20-minute time limit, @Brodyxking vs Eddie Kingston in the Blue League of the @AEW Continental Classic tonight! There will be no outside interference, just a great match NOW on TNT!”

However, he became an object of relentless online trolling because of this. In fact, many fans called it lights out for his pro wrestling company.

Fans ferociously bash Tony Khan for his social media promotion

Fans went full throttle with their insults toward Tony Khan as they roasted him for his attempt at promotion. One of the fans posted an image of CM Punk checking the time on his wrist and issued a threat, saying, “Fear For Your Ratings Next”.

Another fan mentioned that the tweet just served as a reminder that AEW exists.

While one of them registered their liking of Khan, they also stated that the same wasn’t the case with everyone.

One of the fans went too far and said that his own wrestlers would’ve been tuned into the Survivor Series.

Seeing all the attention go to WWE, one of the fans felt second-hand embarrassment.
