A few years ago, while promoting their first movie ‘Central Intelligence’ on BBC Radio 1, Kevin Hart recalled the first time he saw Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
Obviously, it was in the WWE as Hart is a fan of the sport. Moreover, he praised The Rock for making wrestling exciting after Hulk Hogan.
The comedian said, “There was a time in wrestling were a superstar was needed. Hulk was just the biggest thing ever and as Hulk got older a lot of new people started to come in place. But none of them really had that superstar appeal and feel that Hulk Hogan gave.”
He added, “When DJ came around and The Rock was The Rock in wrestling, it gave a rebirth to the superstar that wrestling needed. It almost gave wrestling a pushback into…”Johnson added, saying, “Mainstream”.
“Exactly, because it was fading away for a minute. So people don’t understand that he really gave that pop back to wrestling to do what’s it doing now,” Hart added.
Hart claimed the DJ was that pillar due to which WWE captured a bigger mass of audience. Moreover, he called The Rock the greatest ever to step foot in a wrestling ring.
Furthermore, the host Greg James also added about talking only about The Rock’s promos and matches during his school days. That was the popularity of Dwayne Johnson as a WWE superstar.
