During that time, his rivalry storyline with D-Generation X was in progress. Rhodes recalled it was the first night of the “DX Legacy Tour.” He mentioned he was 22 or 23 at the time and was excited about his tour. A few moments before their entrance during a live show, Hunter, who helped him return to WWE, pitched him an idea.
The American Nightmare and DiBiase were the first ones to make the entrance. So HHH suggested they should rip a DX banner with spray paint on it that was at the entrance. It would make them look cool and hype up the fans. Little did Rhodes know, The Game had set up a prank for him.
The 37-year-old wrestler agreed with Hunter’s idea. As he proceeded to make his entrance, he did as The Game suggested that he do. The banner was attached to a 2 by 4 wooden plank, which was loosely held at its position.

As Rhodes ripped the banner, the 2 by 4 plank fell and hit him in the head. The spray paint was wet, so it went down all over him. In the end, he confessed that after the humiliating incident happened, Michaels and Triple H laughed at him for the entire match.
He had entered with the hopes of looking like a strong heel. Instead, left the arena red-faced and with paint all over his body. He said, “I am so embarrassed. We’re the main event and look at me.”
