In every storyline, there would be one guy who is the face, the hero and the other is the heel, the villain. But it is only a few that the WWE Universe recalls as being iconic. And none could claim to that title more than Dwayne Johnson and Steve Austin. The rivalry sparked a whole new generation of WWE and wrestling fans who still clamor for hope to see something at that level.

One of the biggest points to notice is the trajectory of the two superstars. Both had serious injuries which led them here. For Steve Austin, that was the Owen Hart Piledriver spot, which restricted his technical wrestling. But it would also go on to make him focus on the character aspect of wrestling. And for Johnson, it was when his dreams of playing football were crushed which led him to the doors of WWE.

Both megastars started somewhere where it was impossible for them to grow. Steve Austin was the Ringmaster, a technical perfectionist under Ted DiBiase until he transformed into Stone Cold and stole the hearts of fans all over the world. Talking about the Rock, we all hate and remember the Rocky Maivia persona which the Hollywood superstar fails to get over with fans. But his insertion in the Nation of Domination and matches with Triple H would form the wrestling legend, The Rock.

Tamina reveals the rivalry’s importance for her cousin, Dwayne Johnson

Recently, WWE did a Rivals episode on the historic feud between The Rock and Stone Cold. Tamina, who sits on the panel of wrestlers who talk about each of these rivalries, said, “With my cousin Dwayne, The Rock, he speaks about Stone Cold and he speaks about the way they performed in front of the audience. I mean, he has this bond and this connection with him. It chokes him up every single time he talks about it.”

It is fascinating to see that a Hollywood megastar who casually meets billion-dollar executives and million-dollar deals every week remembers the last time when he was in tune with the WWE brand. And hearing him tear up for such a thing of the past means that it meant something very important in the ‘Black Adam’ star.
