They say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. This saying is true for Dusty Rhodes and Cody Rhodes. The son of the legendary ‘American Dream’ grew up to become a superstar in WWE, after proving himself in AEW. Recently, WWE released a documentary about the life of Dusty Rhodes, as part of their hit show, WWE: Legends.

In that, the 2023 Royal Rumble winner’s mother, Michelle Rubio, spoke about her love life with her husband, who was already a superstar. Moreover, Rubio shared the story of how and where they met each other for the first time.

In a recently aired episode of WWE Legends Biography, Michelle Rubio shared how her journey began with Dusty Rhodes. Back in 1977, ‘The American Dream’ was already a household name across America, through his fashionable exploits in the National Wrestling Alliance.

However, a young Rubio met him during that year and changed his life forever. She stated, “It wasn’t love at first sight. But I fell in love with him, very quickly.”

Dusty Rhodes became popular with his unusual body type for a wrestler. ‘The American Dream’ and Michelle Rubio met in 1977, and she had a feeling that this man was right for her.

Rubio went on to describe their first meeting. She said, “The imperial lounge was where you could go to listen to country music. That was his favorite place to hang out.” and added, “that’s where I met him.”

Therefore, the two first locked eyes at ‘The Imperial Lounge’ in Florida, where Rhodes spent most of his time.

‘The American Dream’ brought some old photos, to share his autograph with Michelle Rubio

Michelle Rubio knew of Dusty Rhodes’ popularity in America. Even her siblings adored the wrestler and were huge fans. So, young Rubio approached him to get an autograph.

She narrated, “I had to ask Dusty for an autograph for my little brothers and sisters and he said, ‘Well if you come next week, I have some photos I’ll bring you those.”

After Rhodes kept his promise, she knew they had a special connection and fell in love. Their relationship eventually gave birth to Cody Rhodes, the youngest son. Who became one of the biggest superstars in WWE, just like his father.
