John Cena’s Post SummerSlam Scenario Recreated After 10 Years With Top Star’s Horrific Injury

Another WWE star injured! What is going on in WWE? Every week we hear a fresh piece of news stating that another superstar has gotten injured. Once again, a top star in the promotion got injured this week. The injury scenario is similar to what John Cena had 10 years ago after SummerSlam.

WWE booked Sami Zayn to wrestle in a six-man tag team match alongside Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes. He was to face The Judgement Day in the main event of Raw this week. However, the injury prevented him from competing in the main event bout.

What happened to Cena 10 years ago after SummerSlam?

‘The Champ’ suffered a legitimate elbow injury before his SummerSlam match against Daniel Bryan in 2013. He lost his match during the 2013 Summer event and also lost his WWE Championship to Bryan, which marked the end of his 133 days’ reign as the champion.

On the following episode of Monday Night Raw, he came out to address the WWE Universe and stated that he would undergo surgery for a triceps tear. Therefore, he wouldn’t be competing for the next four to six months. As mentioned earlier, Cena’s injury was real and his elbow looked like it has a baseball stuck to it.

Photos from this week’s flagship show episode showcase Zayn suffering a similar injury. In the pictures, his elbows also looked like it has a baseball stuck to it. Plus, WWE highlighted his injury on Raw after SummerSlam, just like they did with Cena 10 years ago. However, there is more than meets the eye. Continue reading further to find more.

How did Sami Zayn get injured on Raw?

As Sami geared up for his main event match on Raw this week, a backstage segment showcased him getting attacked. The person who attacked Zayn was JC McDonagh. After the attack, he was in so much pain that the medics had to rule him out from the main event match.

Shinsuke Nakamura replaced him and took his spot at the main event six-man tag team match. However, later in the main event match, he made an appearance and helped the baby face team beat heel The Judgement Day by causing a distraction ringside.

But that’s not all. It turns out Zayn didn’t suffer any injury at all. It was all a kayfabe. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful provided an update on this matter and disclosed that the injury was not real. WWE had planned it all along. Zayn’s arm could always do that – pop back and look swollen.

Thus, it can be implied that WWE is building a storyline for Zayn. With his tag team partner, Kevin Owens, out of action because of a legitimate injury, this may be the promotion’s attempt to keep his character busy in the shows.
