The WWE has been marketing the Backlash matchup between Randy Orton and Edge as ‘The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever’. This puts a massive burden on the two superstars, as they now have an almost impossible bar to live up to.

The match seems to have been taped before being shown on Sunday, and we may have some special details about the matchup.

Spoilers may ensue.

The Wrestling Observer Live reported that the ‘Greatest Match Ever’ was pre-taped, so that everything about the match is perfect. Bryan Alvarez of The Wrestling Observer reported that the match was around 35 minutes in length.

All I know is that it’s already been taped. I believe they went around 30-35 minutes.

The match lasted 35 minutes in its entirety. This doesn’t mean that the end product which fans will see at Backlash will be the same. Pacing issues during the fight, bad camera angles, etc. are usually cut out of such matches in post-production.

They could edit this down to 25 minutes, and they could edit this down to 18 minutes, or maybe the full 35 minutes. So, I’m only telling you what I was told in terms of the actual length of the match that they did live.

The match had an almost impossible bar to reach. It is expected to be better than so many legendary bouts in the WWE. Very few Superstars have the ability to live up to the match, other than Randy Orton and Edge. It is also great to know that the WWE is also committed to making this an amazing match.

It [the match] was taped, and there was a reason that they taped it, I believe last Sunday for airing the following Sunday. They want this match to be perfect, at least until whatever they do for the finish.

With some immense build-up, great storyline, and talented veterans in the ring, this match is truly shaping up to be one for the ages.
