Cody Rhodes‘ entrant number significantly changed since last year’s Royal Rumble. While he was kept hidden till the last moment in 2023, WWE revealed him as the 15th entrant this year. However, his appearance number changed nothing because “The American Nightmare” ended up stealing the show after all.

Cody Rhodes drives the crowd crazy

In the end, the climax was down to just Cody Rhodes and CM Punk. After utilizing their potential to the fullest, both wrestlers seemed burned out. But neither of the stars could rest without eliminating the other. Right when fans would have assumed that the match might end in a ‘draw’, the tide of the battle quickly turned. Despite “The Best in the World” entering the arena at number 27, Rhodes was able to throw him outside the ring. “I didn’t wait 10 years to lose to Dusty’s kid,” was the last thing that Punk said before he was eliminated.

With this, “The American Nightmare” has equaled the record that Hulk Hogan set for himself more than 3 decades ago when he won the men’s WWE Royal Rumble twice in a row in 1991, followed by his victory in 1990. He also joined an esteemed list comprising Hogan, Shawn Michaels, and Steve Austin for contenders who have won back-to-back Rumble matches.

The most impressive part about this achievement is that Rhodes is now the first star in 26 years who has consecutively won two Royal Rumble in a row. “Stone Cold” was the last person to set this record in 1998.

“The American Nightmare” will be hoping that his fortunes take a turn for the better compared to last year as he aims to usurp Roman Reigns yet again.

History repeated itself at the Royal Rumble this year. After Cody Rhodes’ victory, he is sure to challenge Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40. Since he lost to “The Tribal Chief” last year, fans have been waiting for him to get back at him and finally win over the Undisputed Universal Championship. Even during the final moments of the men’s RR event, Reigns looked troubled whenever Rhodes’ victory seemed inevitable.

Dwayne Johnson Turned the Tables on Triple H, Becoming His Overseer

There was speculation that Dwayne Johnson would wrestle his cousin at WrestleMania 40 in the main event. While their feud may not be off the table yet, the possibility is of “The Rock” challenging Reigns for his post in the Anoa’i family rather than his WWE title.
